Sekai | The online writers' café

Writing & Editing, Past Projects
2019 - 2021

About this...

I created Sekai because I wanted to be part of a space where writers and artists could share their work, exchange ideas, and grow together.

Our competitions in flash fiction, poetry, and microfiction were a major highlight, with themes like "Write a poem about dreams/dreaming”.

It was amazing to see everyone’s interpretations and the supportive feedback they received.
(One of the Deleted Users you'll see is actually me! That’s how Discord rewards its active, paying members on the platform :D)

Our blog played a key role, posting competition results and informative articles on topics like poetic meter and writing tips.
It was a fantastic resource for our members, celebrating achievements and offering guidance.
I privated the blog as at the time, it felt like the end of an era… as dumb as it may sound…!
We even had a bot (and mascot): Bokuto! He helped moderate our community. Read more about him here.

Many discussions took place at Sekai; from questions about how to write poetry, to prose discussions on hypothetical plots I can’t even fully fathom.

The community was always eager to jump in and talk about…

...whatever, really!

I loved moderating and participating in various channels, from writing prompts and book recommendations to art discussions and work critiques.
Each section catered to different creative needs, fostering a supportive and inspiring environment.
Competitions all had clear guidelines and exciting prizes like Amazon gift cards and the opportunity to influence future themes.

Overall, founding and nurturing Sekai | The Writers' Online Café was about more than just writing; it was about building a community and fostering a love for creativity.

Right Side Speech Bubbles
Sekai was more than just a platform; it was a dynamic and active server where members could 'level up' through participation, sharing their works for in-depth feedback from peers and staff alike.
Right Side Speech Bubbles
The community thrived on interaction, with regular giveaways, games, events, and other engaging activities that bonded members and staff in a shared love for writing.
Despite its success and the vibrant community we built, Sekai | The Online Writers' Café had to conclude its journey due to platform changes that did not align with our vision and the evolving work schedules of our dedicated staff.

Nonetheless, the project remains a testament to the power of community in fostering literary talent and the enduring impact of shared creative endeavours.
